Hi All

This is the situation:
- I am a British citizen living in UK
- My mother has been granted the "Indefinite leave to remain" in Apr 2014, she received this visa when she was physically in America. She has been living in America for 10 years
- The reason why she has been given ILTR is due to her severe illness, and I am the only person who can look after her based on all factors
- She started living in the UK since May 2014
- She is now age 65

My questions are:
1) Given her health problem, does she still need to live in the UK for 5 years (4 years to go actually) before she can apply for the BC?
2) Does she need to do the Lift In The UK test?
3) Are there any other things she needs to meet before she can apply for the BC?

Thank you very much

1) Given her health problem, does she still need to live in the UK for 5 years (4 years to go actually) before she can apply for the BC? She will need 5 years residence to qualify for citizenship. There are no special rules.

2) Does she need to do the Lift In The UK test?As she is 65, no as she is exempt from LIUK and English language. See page 16 of the AN Booklet (Click)

3) Are there any other things she needs to meet before she can apply for the BC? She should be mindful of her absences from the UK in the 5 years residence period. Other than that, I cannot think of anything else.
