Hi I am new to the forum and looking for some information regarding form MN1 please.

I have tried to do a quick search for info on my phone but it keeps cutting parts of the text off.

Basically I am a British citizen by decent, my father was born in the UK. We both hold British passports.

I have two young children (16 months and 4years) who I'd like to apply for citizenship for. I have previously lived in the UK for 3 years (almost exactly) apart from a few short holidays within those 3 years.

About 2 months ago I was reading the guidelines of form MN1 and I believed that I could no longer apply fory children because I hadn't done it before they turned 1 year old. Then a few days ago, read the same guide, and now I cannot find any information where it says that I had to apply before they turned 1...

Am I going crazy or have they changed the rules recently?

Also, is it quite difficult to fill in the MN1 form? I want to do it on my own, I cannot afford to pay an immigration agent, is it fairly straight forward?

Also, because it is so expensive, would it be best to apply for 1 child only in case they don't grant the citizenship? I can't afford to lose out on $2400!!

Actually speaking of the cost, I noticed that 2 months ago the cost was €670+\- but it's now €749. It seemed to coincide with the change of rules?

Did the rules change recently?

They changed the rules to 3(2) on 13 January 2010!

Perhaps you had read a very old copy of the MN1 Guidelines.

They often increase the fees in April.

You can apply by yourself.
This forum (or similar) can help with general guidance.

If in UK you can apply via NCS (a checking service offered by local council for a reasaonable fee, approx £50 - £70 each) - they help check the application, copy your documents (so you keep originals) and forward application to HO.

It helps if you are organised, with an eye for detail, and have all infomation & evidence available in documentary form that can satisfy HO.

Have several attempts at completing the form until you are happy it is accurate & complete.
Keep scans & copies of everything (even if using NCS).
It will probably help if you can use a desktop PC or laptop for research and for printing.

If HO has discretion in your case then, yes, you could test the water by applying one by one. I guess some people may do that.

And do both have to have lived there for 3 years?

Hubby and I weren't married at the time and I lived there for 3 years and he lived there for 2 years.

Would this count against our application for our kids?

3(3) refers to the parent in question (singular).
