Hello, does anyone on the forum know how long it takes for a UK passport to be processed if a child is born in Pakistan and the application is made from inside Pakistan (both Parents are Naturalised British Citizens / Passport holders and so the child can be born anywhere and is eligible for an automatic UK Passport).

Thank you.

At least 6 months according to HM Passport Office.

Is the following an option that can be used:

Apply for a Pakistani passport for the child (as that only takes upto 6 weeks) and then get a British visa for the child.

Once the child is in UK, the UK passport can be applied for ?

A British citizen may apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode (2(1)(a)) instead of a British passport.

The child is a British citizen and so a visa is not an option. A visa can not be issued to a national of the country and hence the BHC would not issue it.

The two options are getting a British passport or a Pakistani passport with a Certificate of Entitlement-Right of Abode(CoE-RoA) as sushdmehta and vinny have advised above.

The CoE-RoA takes 16 weeks or more to be issued. So, you are still looking at 22 weeks (6+16 weeks) for the child to travel back to the UK.

There are threads on these forums for naturalised British citizens applying for either British passports or CoE-RoA from India. They suggest waiting between 6 months and a year for the documents.
