Can a non-British Parent of a British child get British citizenship?

I think the OP meant to ask if a non-British parent can get British citizenship on the basis that child is a British citizen?
Like transferring citizenship by descent, only not to child(ren) but to parent(s).

Not as a matter of right and not in one go.
But the parent of a British child can get Leave to Remain for 2.5 years, which can be repeated till s/he accrues 10 years of legal stay in the UK, at which time s/he would be eligible for ILR, followed in a year's time by citizenship. So, you are looking at a 11 year pathway to citizenship.
