A colleague at my work place is From Malawi but has been British citizen for a decade if not, longer. His wife and son are in MAlawi still but his son is 7 so was born AFTER he got British citizenship.Surely he is able apply to register his son as a British citizen ?

I will have to get back to you on that one.
I know he was around since the 70s and has served in the army at some point
I have a shift with him today so I will let you know!

Depending on how he obtained citizenship will make a difference regarding his son.

Ok So I found out my colleague got his British citizenship via his mum. His mum got British citizenship on something to do with that India got its independence ( I don't know the history behind it though)
and ultimately he was born British even though he was born in India.
He's been here since 1972.

So he is British by Descent which cannot be passed on to children born outside the UK. There might be an exception though, but I will have to look for it in the Act.
Is your friend planning to bring his wife and child to the UK to settle?

Get your friend to check his passport. Is he described as a British citizen or a British Overseas citizen?
Where was his mother born?
