HI,

I'm going to apply for my first UK passport and I found that I need to send my original current passport together with my application form. Some people on this board declares that I can send color copies, other rejecting this option. However I was calling to Advice Line and get strong advice do not plan any trips for the whole period of time till I get the new passport, and there is no option for the first UK passport applicant except of posting original passport.

Though, I see that the original passport usually coming back during the 5-7 days after application. My question: should I stay for the whole period of time (as obligatory requirement) or I can wait till I've got my current passport back and then can travel for couple of days without waiting my new UK passport?

thank you for all hints.

You are free to travel once if you get your foreign passport back. Bear in mind that you will need to attend an interview before they complete and print your British passport.
