I've requested for my 10 year work history from HMRC about 5/6 weeks ago and haven't received anything yet. If someone has applied previously, how long did it take for you? Is there any contact number / email to check the status of the same?

Same here, I requested my history mid-Sep. Nothing received yet.

Probably the office is inundated with requests from people like me who have forgotten dates for temp jobs done 8-10 years ago

How long HMRC usually takes to respond such query?

I called the HMRC directly on the number thats listed on your tax documents, and asked for my SA302, which are essentially your annual personal tax returns. Is this what you guys are asking for also? They arrived about a week after calling (technically 5-7 working days). Didnt use the form described or write a covering letter. Hope you guys dont have to wait long.

Thanks but I think people here are referring to work history beyond 6 years, which takes time as HMRC search through their records.

I've called Record Retrieval service today to check the status. They wouldn't tell me anything. They asked to call another number (03000560629) which is NI records dept. The lady I spoke have told me that home office accepts whatever the document they send (NI contributions) and they are getting lot of calls from people asking the same info.

Would this records dept ever reply?

I found this number 0300 200 3300 in another thread. I called HMRC today and asked for my 6 years history (6 years is my length of Stay in UK). They told that it would reach in 10 working days.

I asked them to confirm my start, end dates for each employment so that I can fill my application and they did.
