British passport for children

I was hoping someone here might be able to help me or point me in the right direction.
My wife and I have two children, I'm a UK citizen from birth my wife is from Australia and has been here since Dec 2004. first with an Ancestral visa and then with a spouse visa. We have been together since she came over to UK and we got married in 2007.
We have two children both born here in the UK and both registered as Australian citizens. Both children have held Australian passports both of which have now expired.
Can I just apply for a British passport for the children?
Do I need anything else first?
I'm named on both their birth certificates.
