NCS Appointment

Hello,

I recently got the ILR approval and now planning to register my 3 year old as a BC. I called my council office for NCS appointment and the earliest one they can offer is 29th Jan. Is it mandatory to book the NCS appointment with the council where you live or can I try with any other council who can offer me an earlier appointment? Also, do I have to take my kid with me for this appointment?

Cheers
MSM

You can use any NCS. 29th January is not that far away. Have you received your ILR BRP card yet?

No you don't have to take your child with you.

I missed the BRP delivery on 13th Jan. They have rearranged it for 18th Jan now. So, I'll definitely have the card tomorrow.

If you book at another NCS, you will likely lose the NCS fee you have already paid. The fee is not transferable.

I haven't paid the fee to my council yet as I called them on Saturday and I was told that they don't book any appointments for the calls made on weekends :(

If I book an appointment with some other council, will that council be my point of contact (and do I need to visit them regularly for all sort of correspondence?) until the application is processed?

You are not understanding the process of NCS.

NCS is ONLY a handling / third party service/agent and only check and submit the application. They are not part of HO. Once you submit your application, that is where your contact with NCS ends. They don't follow up on your application or write to you for anything. NCS is not any type of 'point of contact' after submission.

HO will write to you directly if they need anything and HO will send the certificate if the application is approved.

I am assuming from your vague post that your child is UK born.

Got it! Cheers!
One last question for all - Can anyone suggest the councils in London that usually have NCS appointments easily available?

No sorry, I can't. You would have to contact them to find out, but I suspect the wait for most will be longer than 29th January.

Is your child UK born?

I have got the BRPs (me and my wife) now. Do I need both BRPs at the time of NCS appointment? Actually, my wife's BRP is slightly damaged (the chip is chipped in the corner) and she is going to contact Home Office for the same. If she gets a replacement BRP, will the BRP number be the same?

You only need one parents BRP showing ILR.

If she gets a replacement, the number might change. So use your BRP for the childs application.

You can check out Brent council, its right next to the stadium.

I recall getting an appointment within the week (this month last year).
They are very professional, quick and precise. I carried around 400 pages of documentation and lady took only 3 pages from it.

she took just 10 minutes to verify the application and photocopy passport. And even gave a copy of LIUK page back as I didn't know they were to send the original to HO.

BTW, as this is for my kid who was born in the UK, the only docs that I'll be carrying

1. My PP and BRP (ILR)
2. Kids PP and existing BRP
3. Kids birth certificate
4. My Marriage certificate.
5. Address proof (?)
6. Not the least MN1 :)

Anything else?

4. Only required if child was born before 2006.
5. Not required.
