Hi Everyone,

I have got my tier 1 general visa valid till June 2016. I will be completing 5 years and will apply for ILR in may 2016. My daughter was born in UK in 2014 and currently she has a pakistani passport and dependent visa valid till the same date I have. Once I will get my ILR, would I need to naturalize my daughter as a UK citizen or will I be able to apply directly for her passport. A few friends have told me that I do not need to naturalize my child as she is born in UK but I couldn't find any satisfactory information on that.

Please let me know,

Thanks in advance.

Children are REGISTERED and not naturalised.

Only British Citizens can apply for a passport. Your daughter is not a British Citizen (yet).

Once you get ILR and receive your BRP card, you can apply to register your child on form MN1 under section 1(3) of the nationality act, which is an entitlement to register.

Once you receive the registration certificate, only then can you apply for her passport.

Your friends are wrong. It would only be the case of applying directly for a passport if she was born AFTER you got ILR.
