New born baby

Hello folks and friends,

I am a national of Kazakhstan and my husband is British. We are currently in my home country expecting our first child. The questions I have are:
1. Will our new born baby (to be born abroad) hold British nationality?
2. Do we need to apply for UK visa for a baby as a dependent or are we eligible to request a British passport?

Forum is awesome. Thanks for the support given in here!

1. If your husband is British born, then the baby will be British by descent.

2. British Passport directly, can take 6-12 months from abroad though as they are processed in the UK.

As above the baby will automatically be British by descent* and you can apply directly for a passport.

*This is the same as normal British citizenship (otherwise than by descent) with the sole difference being that if they go on to have children outside the UK, they will not automatically be British.

Many thanks for prompt reply CR001.

What if he is not British born? he's got naturalisation and consequently British passport back in 2005.

Thanks Ohara. I guess my husband can't apply within the UK and needs to arrive to Kazakhstan?
Up to 12 months that's a bit steep.

The same applies as your husband is British (otherwise than by descent) and the baby will clearly be born after this fact and will still be British by descent.
