1) After holding ILR for 12 months & after you successfully apply for & are granted the privilege of citizenship.
(Passport is a separate application).

2) Because the card itself (not the 'ILR') has an expiry date;
- card needs to be updated periodically (+ photo updated; after all people change over time)

ILR only really 'expires' if you leave UK for 2 years +

3) Usual type of things: passport, BRP, LITUK, proof of English proficiency, etc.

Note
There are other non-documentary requirements too: good character, sound mind, absences within limits, etc.

1. when i can apply for British passport ?
Only a British Citizen can apply for a British Passport. You need to apply to naturalise as a Brirish Citizen first, then once you get approval, attend your ceremony to receive your certificate. Only then can you apply for a passport. You could have applied in November 2013 if you were still married. But you can apply now as you have 5 years residence, provided you meet all the standard requirements.
2. Why there is date of expiry at the back of my ILR card ?
The card expires, like a drivers license. Peoples features change as they get older, this is why the card needs to be updated.
3. Which kind of documents are required ?
Please see the FAQs - Common Questions about Citizenship (click). Links to the form and guidance notes are within the FAQs.

For what purpose?

Citizenship is not a visa.
There is no requirement to be working.

Note ESOL is no longer accepted since proof of English rules changed in November 2015.

If you read the guidance on documents & evidence required it should be clearer.

But i have checked in it says if you have done it ESOL level 3

You can prove your knowledge of English by having a recognised English test qualification from an approved test centre.

You need to have a certificate to prove you have the qualification, or be able to view your results online.

You can only use English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) qualifications if they’re on the list. You can’t use other qualifications, eg GCSEs, A levels or National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).

Have you read Guide AN and Booklet AN? I suggest you do. The application for naturalisation is £1005 (Increasing to £1236 in April) and if you mess it up and it is refused, you don't get a refund.

The list of accepted tests and exam centres is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... ebsite.pdf

ESOL is not on the list and it's a lot of money to throw away.

You are referring to an outdated version of the list. You need to look at the current SELT list.

ESOL is not longer on the current list and will not be accepted as of November 2015 which came into effect on 6 April 2015.

You will need to take another English test from the current SELT list.

There is a provision for those who applied for ILR after 28 October 2013 not to demonstrate the English again if already demonstrated before. As you obtained yours in March 2013, this won't apply to you.

You don't appear to have understood any of the above.

You now need a SELT & not ESOL for proof of English.

If organised & methodical (and with good supporting documentation) you don't need a solicitor/lawyer (good or bad) to apply for the privilege of citizenship.

You can't apply without satisfying the English language requirement unless you qualify for the listed exemptions. Using a solicitor will add no weight to your application at all and unless you are incapable of filling in the form yourself, will be a huge waste of money.

You should probably look at booking an English test: https://www.trinityselt.co.uk/

The availability is pretty good in all of the locations. As long as you have a moderate command of the English language and can describe stuff in past, present and future tense you should be OK.

Read what others have advised. Which ever way you look at it, you have no choice but to do an English test from the current SELT list and it must be taken from an approved test cente. The SELT list has all the details.

Using a solicitor will make no difference to the application expect for leaving your wallet very light.

Book you test now, get it done and try to apply before April as the fee are going up. The current fee is £1005, the proposed fee in April is going to be £1236, thats a £231 increase.
