Awaiting return of Passport from Home Office

Hi,

I submitted my application for a permanent residence card on 2nd December asking for my passport to be returned back to me as soon as possible. Apart from an automated e-mail on 24th December saying my application was being considered, I have not heard anything.

Does anyone know how I can contact the Home Office to get an update on the status of my application and request my passport back? Given that I sent it 7 weeks ago, I really feel like I should be getting my passport back now.

Thanks

Unfortunately you cannot get any update on the progress of your application until after 6 months have elapsed. If you are a non-EEA national, the process normally takes between 5 and 5.5 months. For EEA nationals it's much quicker, from the few we've seen so far it is about 8 weeks.

You can formally request your documents back from the Home Office using the online form here: https://www.gov.uk/visa-documents-returned

Make sure select NO when it asks if you wish to withdraw your application. If you need your passport urgently, state this in the comments box it gives you.

I requested my passport back urgently and it arrived after 4 working days by Royal Mail 1st class recorded post. 8)
