Will my Child be Eligible for a British Passport?

Hello - looking for some advice! I am expecting my first child in a few weeks....

I hold a British passport, I was born in the UK after 1983. My parents were married at the time of my birth, living in the UK - but they both were not born in the UK and have passports from another EU country. However, my paternal grandmother was born in the UK and has a British passport.

My husband holds a passport from another EU country.

We currently live in Spain, and our child will be born here.

Is my child eligible for a British passport? ---and if so what documentation must I provide? I know my full birth certifate is required - but because I am born after 1983 do I need to provide other evidence?

Thanks!!!

If your child will be born in Spain they will still be British by birth as they are born to a British Citizen otherwise than by descent. If born abroad, your child will become a British citizen by descent which means they cannot normally pass their citizenship to any kids they may have abroad further down the line.

Info on which documents need to be provided is available here:

Your parents carry the passport of which EU country?

Your grandmother would have been born a British citizen and her son (your father) would have been a British citizen by descent. As you were born in the UK to a British citizen, you would be a British citizen otherwise than by descent.

Your children born anywhere in the world would be British citizens by descent. But their children (your grandchildren) would only be British citizens if they were born in the UK, just like your situation.

Your birth certificate and your child's birth certificate should be sufficient.

Thanks for your help and responses - that helps a lot.
My parents both have Dutch passports.
I ask about the 1983 thing, because on the checklist of supporting documents for applying for a passport from outside the UK , Table D mentions about when your parents are born after 1983 having to supply proof from your grandparents....

Thanks so much!
