ILR and BC Home Office CrossChecking

Hello!!!

If HO has already checked your 5 or 10-year history , what else does HO need to check when you apply for Naturalisation? Is it just the last 12 months you were free from immigration time restrictions? If yes, so why is HO taking too long to review documents for BC? If not, what else do they check? I have received my ILR.

For ILR:
Immigration history - breaks / continuous residence
Criminal Convictions / Civil Offenses
Absences in UK for the last 5 or 10 yrs
Taxes / NI through HMRC if Tier1
Knowledge of Language and LITUK
Council Tax -- Do they check this? When you were mostly for instance on Tier 4 visa during the 10-year stay?

For Naturalisation:
Knowledge of Language and LITUK
Residence Requirement - Absences in UK for the last 3 or 5 years and last 12 months
Good Character
---Criminal / Civil Offenses
---Taxes / NI through HMRC
---Bankruptcy and Debt Issues
---Council Tax -- How do I tell them of my Council tax account numbers? When I was on Tier 4, I had a different account number (living with other students, different home address) from what I have now since I was on PSW (I was paying during PSW visa)? I do not want to get in trouble because of this.

Thank you!! Your reply is much appreciated.

We don't work for HO. They do the checks that they need to do and all you can do is wait.

Immigration rules (ILR) and Nationality Law (naturalisation) are two very separate things with their own separate criteria.

No issue with your council tax. You don't have to inform HO of your council tax numbers. A council tax number is not unique to you for life.

There is a gap between your understanding of the process and how the Home Office sees it and runs it.

ILR, naturalisation and issuance of British passports are granted under different rules, made under different Acts of Parliament by different teams in the Home Office. That is why you may be required to repeat some information.

To you, it is one organisation. To them, they are completely unrelated teams.
