Joint citizenship and passport checking - docs

Hi there,

I went through my citizenship and passport process last year. When I did that, I applied using the NCS which was helpful. I showed originals but was given my passport back and could travel. I got my citizenship and then shortly after applied for my passport.

My husband is applying now and I see that there is a joint citizenship and passport checking service which appears to streamline everything. However, I have a question. Do you have to submit your passport if using this? When I applied for my passport I had to give in my then current passport. But as this is a joint citizenship and passport application, will the applicant have to give it in, or will they be able to travel?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Sana

No, NCS will still only take copies and give the originals back to the applicant.

Applicant will receive all the documents back including Passport and BRP card and all the originals.

Only original they will send it with your application is the LIUK certificate.

Great! Thank you both. So that means one can travel during the process?

Yes but remember that you have a timeline limit to enroll biometrics once you receive the letter to do so.

Great - thanks for your answer. That shouldn't be a problem. We're really only travelling for the weekend a few times but there's one trip that spans about 9 days (summer).

Do you know what the time limit is?

It can take a couple of months or it can take many months.

There are a couple of member still waiting since 2014.

Sorry I didn't mean that. I may be a bit confused and my question wasn't put properly. You said there's a time limit - which I implied to mean a time limit on when you can provide biometrics. I meant what is the time limit on that. Apologies for the confusion and thank you for your earlier responses.

Once you receive the letter for biometrics, it gives you 15 days to enroll them at the Post Office.
