Can new UK passport holders act as referee?

Hello Friends,
I got naturalised on 18-Apr-2016 and got my first ever British passport on May-2016. Can I countersign my friend's naturalisation application and passport forms?

If you meet all the other referee requirements I can't see why not.

That is now one of your rights and responsibilities as a BC.

Thanks guys. Yes I do meet the criteria but wasn't sure if new citizens can countersign for others.
