Born before 1983 to a British mother (UKM) which documents?

Hi,
I am applying to register as a citizen using the born before 1983 to a British mother (UKM). While I'm sure I qualify I am a little confused on the supporting documents I must provide along with my application, specify those of my mother.

My mother was born in England to British parents.

This is the list that the guide says I should provide. Please note my comments in blue below.

Please send the following documents:
• Your passport; and - Got this
• Your full birth certificate (one which includes the name of your parent(s), (which should be requested from the relevant authorities in your country of origin); and - Got this
• Your mother’s full birth certificate; and either Got this
• Her certificate of naturalisation or registration as a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (or, before 1 January 1949, as a British subject); or - N/A she was born in the UK to British parents
• Papers showing her legal adoption; or - N/A
• Her expired citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies passport - Can it be current rather than expired?

I will also need to send her marriage certificate.

If my reading is correct I must provide an expired UK passport of my mothers, what if she only has a current one and no longer has any expired ones?

Thanks

Guy

I applied via UKM which is still in process. I sent my mother's original birth certificate, my original US passport, my original "long" birth certificate. Hopefully this is enough, they haven't asked for more yet, I mailed it mid May.

Do they just verify your passport and send it straight back? I'm assuming they don't hold onto to it for the full 6 months?

They hang onto it for as long as they take to process the application.

CR001 certainly doesn't need any bolstering from me but that is correct - the documents will only be returned when the application is considered. The application will only be taken up for consideration (which can take several months) after you complete biometrics enrollment (the scheduling and completion of which can take several months).

With regard to your mum's passport, I think you are fine sending in her current original. This is arguably better proof than the expired passport. If your mum doesn't want to part with her passport, you could try sending in a sworn color copy of it.

I have read of other applicants being successful even where they did not submit their mum's passport (which is probably what A_Powers is drawing from).

If your mum has a different name on your birth certificate you will need to evidence that name change (usually due to marriage - so marriage certificate). If this applies to you and you didn't send it in (perhaps you left it off of your list since it wasn't relevant to this thread?) you can probably count on needing it, so you might want to secure it now.

My long birth certificate lists my mother's maiden name and birthplace as England, so I thought that would suffice. Guess I will find out soon enough. I don't have the marriage certificate.

Just got the approval letter today, so the marriage certificate wasn't needed for me.
