Teared cover passport: Apply only with spanish ID?

Hello all,

So yesterday I finally received my DCPR (qualifying period Dec 2004 to Dec 2009). I had applied for early return of my spanish passport and got it back 2 months ago but somehow when I stored it I crunched it and the burgundy cover has half come off the rest of the passport.

Fortunately I am going to Barcelona for a long weekend early October so I will be renewing my passport there (online appointment already booked and you get it there an then, within 10 minutes).

Ideally I would prefer not to wait 6 weeks to apply for naturalization. I took the B1 english test and the LitUK tests with my spanish ID card, so can I apply with only my spanish ID card and not my passport? I am planning to use Islington's NCS JCAP service.

The guidance refers to passport or "travel document" everywhere but here:
APPLICATIONS MADE ON THE BASIS OF RESIDENCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Evidence of lawful residence during the 5 (or, if the applicant is married to or in civil partnership to a British citizen, 3) years before the date of the application
• Your passports OR say why you are unable to provide one on page 24 and supply
• Letters from employers, educational establishments or other Government Departments indicating the applicant’s presence in the United Kingdom during the relevant period

Seeing as I don't need a passport to get into the UK, just my spanish ID I guess the above is just the usual lack of clarity in the guidance?

Alternatively, I could take my ripped passport to the NCIS meeting, they copy it and send it. Then renew in October. Do I need to send the home office my new one? The last week in January I am on holidays in the USA so ideally don't want to depend on the HO sending the passport back to me.

Thanks all!

Dan

To avoid complicating your BC application, you should have the damaged passport copied by the NCS.

So, spanish ID card and damaged passport to NCS next week.

In October, after my weekend away, I come back with a new passport. Do I have to tell the home office? Do I have to send it to them?

My passport is damaged. I can apply now, get NCS to copy the damaged one, apply for a new one and then...? Send the new passport to the home office?

With NCS you get to keep all your documents. :)

Yes, yes, I know that, but that is not what I am asking...

Ok, I will rephrase my question, I apply through NCS with passport A. A week later I accidentally put passport A in the washing machine so get a new passport B. Do I need to tell the home office? Send it to them?

I would ask the NCS. They may be willing to call the HO to check whether you'll need to submit your new passport issued after you've submitted your application.

For BC applications the Home Office want to see all uncancelled passports.

1. Let the NCS copy the damaged passport (which you can then retain).
2. Ask the NCS if they will check with the HO while you are with them, whether they require a copy of the new passport once it has been issued.
