Name change as part of naturalisation

Dear Naturalisation gurus,
My wife and I are currently on ILR, both of Armenian nationality presently.
My wife did not change her last name when we got married years ago.
Let's say my Last name is A. My Wife's is B.
Son was born in UK and we gave him a shorter version of my last name - so lets call it C.
He already has a British Passport.
So...
We will launch our naturalisation process in January as we will be eligible then.
Both of us would like to have the same last name as our son has - so all of us to have last-name C.
My current plan after reading posts in the forum is the following:
- apply for naturalisation using last name C
- once certificates come through, cancel current Armenian passports / cancel citizenship
- apply for British Passports.
- change bank accounts, deeds, etc to new name
Do you think this plan is ok? am I missing anything?

She needs to apply for citizenship with the name that appears in her foreign passport. If you put any other name, HO will have a problem with this.
If you want another name, she needs to change her foreign passport first.
Read through this lengthy thread below to understand the difficulties people have when trying to do what you are suggesting.

Hi CR001,
thank you for your reply.
You may have misunderstood the question.
It is not only her, but I am changing my last name too.
Wouldn't cancelled foreign passport and revoked citizenship be enough?

My current plan after reading posts in the forum is the following:
apply for naturalisation using last name C
If wife's name is B, then that is what she has to apply with for citizenship (form AN).

How about mine? Mine is A, but I want to go C. can I not do a name change as part of naturalisation?

No, you cannot. Your name on the application on Form AN must match your foreign passport.

Thanks CR001.
I was of impression that one could pick a new last name as part of naturalisation and the certificate would act as name change certificate.
Would the following work then for me?
- Apply for naturalisation on original last name (A)
- Change name through deed-poll (A to C)
- Cancel foreign passport on original/old name (A)
- Apply for British passport using new name? (C)

Not sure why you thought this. HO is hot on this and preventing 'multiple identities'.

So I have spoken to HMPO and they confirmed that the below would work 100%. Awaiting now a written confirmation.

Hi jimbulik,
Did you get a written confirmation from HMPO as mentioned below? As I have the same problem with my daughter name. She has a single name (only surname) and we need to change it before naturalization application which is ahead but it will be a problem as CR001 made a mention. I want to change her name in British passport when she becomes naturalized.
If we submit joint application for naturalization and British passport through council NCS, how it will work?
Did you get a letter from HMPO or any contact for them? Please advise me, so I can use the same route.
Kind regards
Omer
