Hello,

Could senior members and those who have experience dealing with these kind of cases give us more insight as to what could be done in the even that someone`s application is taking over 6 month to process.

I know the first step is to contact the MP and get them to chase the application. This has been done and the HO got back saying the application is being checked by other government organisation.

Can an application be pending for more than a year without them reaching a decision?

What is the maximum time that they can take to decide on an application?

Contacting MP should be a last resort not a first step.
First step is to contact HO after waiting specified 6 months.

There is no defined maximum time.

Hi we submitted our application 20/10/2015. Over 15 months and we hadn't received a decision. Finally I decided to chase up the application and see what the delay was.. So 12/1/2017 we called up HO and they said someone will get back to us in 3-5 working days. 2 days later we receive phonecall saying HO hasn't made a decision yet. Guess what? Today we receive a letter of approval which is dated 12/01/2017 date of our phonecall to them. So in my opinion it is best to chase it up and see if that gets things moving as it did in our case. Good Luck!
