Reasons for citizenship refusal

Hi all,

As you all know a small percentage of citizenship applications are being refused each year. In 2015 over 10,600 (9% of applications) were refused. Some reasons for refusal are the following (reference: life in the uk test handbook 2017):

● Applicant not of good character (42.5%)
● Residency requirements not satisfied (26.6%)
● Delays in responding to queries from UKVI (11.8%)
Parent not a British citizen (7.0%)
● Insufficient knowledge of life or language in the UK (5.0%)
● Application not correctly completed (2.39%)
● 14 people were refused for not attending their citizenship ceremony in time!

I am not sure I understand the "Parent not a British citizen" reason above. How can not having a British parent be a cause for refusal, if you fulfilled the necessary requirements for your Tier?

Isn't this the whole reason for the majority of us here for applying for a British Citizenship, because neither us nor our parents are British citizens in the first place?

You are, incorrectly, assuming that it is only PBS tier migrants applying for citizenship.
There are many routes to citizenship.

Unfortunately, many applicants (from various routes) think children born abroad can apply for BC if parents remain on ILR. This is not the case and such an application will usually be refused.

Thanjs CR001. Yes you're right, I didn't think of children of ILR holders born outside of the UK. Thanks for clearing this.
