Do I need to compelete an MN1 for my son

Hello,

I am a british citizen otherwise than by descent, who lived abroad for three years (France). My son was born there in 2013. We returned to the UK in June 15. My husband is German, so we sorted out German nationality for our son in France. Now we are back in the UK, I would like to sort out British nationality for our son (so that he has both German and British). Do I need to complete a MN1 to do this ?
If so, I think it would it be better to wait another year to apply so that we will have been UK residents for 3 years (we are planning on staying in the UK) and we can apply under section 3(5) and any potentiel grandchildren could have british citizenship by decent if born abroad...

Any advice much appreciated,
Katie

If you are British otherwise than descent (i.e. either by naturalisation or born in the UK to British parents and you were not born abroad to British parents), then your son is automatically British by descent and can apply directly for a passport.

Thank you for your reply.
Oh that is great! Can I just put his nationality down as British on the passport application? I.e. I don't need any document to actually prove it...
