Passport Verification on Pembroke

One of my British friend travelled from Pembroke to Ireland and the border agency randomly checked his passport and took for verification. They returned the passport after 10 minutes but requested his Ireland residence address and what he does in Ireland. Why would they need residence address of a British citizen after passport verification. Any idea?

Depends what his reasons for traveling were and what he told them.

He told them that he is working in Ireland and family is residing in Ireland as well.
Is there anything to worry about it?

They are entitled to do checks if they wish to. If he is working in Ireland, then he should provide his details as requested. ROI is a separate country so standards can and are done.

Got it. Thanks !!
The checks shouldn't b an issue as all the statements given were accurate. He was just getting worried as this was the first time he was asked this.

ROI and the UK share their immigration data/information, so just let your friend know this.
