british Citizen with an EU passport query

My situation is a little complicated. I was born in 1980 in the UK automatically making me a British citizen however I never had a British passport, only Dutch (my father is Dutch), never thought I needed it as it was an EU passport and was all the same...who knew? However now, living abroad, having two kids (dual Chilean/Dutch) I am thinking about applying for the British passport..and for my kids..are they eligible (they were born in Chile) ? And if I were not to apply for the british passport, would I have problems in the future going back even though I am a British citizen? is there a document (apart from my birth certificate) that states I am a citizen? I don't want to lose my EU passport....it's a hard one.

What is your mother's nationality?

Your children are British citizens by descent and so can apply for a British passport as well. However, their children, if born outside the UK, will not be British citizens automatically.

You can apply for a
CoE-RoA in your Dutch passport. That will allow you to enter the UK as a British citizen. But it is almost four times as expensive(£272) as a British passport(£72.50).

Even your birth certificate does not state your citizenship.

You likely won't lose your Dutch citizenship if you were born with dual nationality. But I am no expert on Dutch nationality law.

Dutch nationality law is unusual in that it automatically removes citizenship from dual Dutch/other citizens if they live outside the Netherlands/EU for more than 10 years- unless a valid Dutch passport is obtained within that period. So it is especially important for dual Dutch/other citizens to keep a valid Dutch passport and ensure that renewal is completed before the 10 years is up.
In addition, Dutch citizens automatically lose Dutch citizenship upon naturalisation in another country, unless falling within a few exceptions. The most significant of which is that those who acquire the nationality of a spouse or registered partner (as defined in Dutch law) do not lose Dutch citizenship.

As I understand, the Dutch government has in recent years talked about tightening up these restrictions but there have not been any significant changes recently.
