Naturalisation Supporting Documents for self sufficient EU

Hello All,

I am EU citizen who has been living in the UK since March 2007.

On February 2017 I have applied for PR which has been granted in March 2017. The date I have acquired PR status is March 2012.

I now would like to apply for citizenship but I have a doubt about the supporting documents I have to provide as my employment history is a bit patchy. There have been three periods since I have moved over here when I have been self sufficient:

- October 2010 to November 2012
- February 2013 to July 2013
- December 2016 to Today

First question: Am I right to assume that I have to provide evidence and supporting documents only for the last 5 years? (So I would need to start from March 2013)

Second question: to cover the periods when I have been self sufficient I was thinking (as I have done for the PR application) to send bank statements demonstrating that I had enough funds to be able to live in the UK and I was actually living here as I was spending money for grocery, bills etc Do you think this would be acceptable? I cannot think of any other way to prove my living in the UK during the periods when I was self sufficient.

For all the other periods I can provide P60s, P45s and employer letters.

Thanks.

Lack of economic activity is no hindrance for BC.
In terms of employment, you will have to provide details going back 10 years from the date of application, or from when entered the UK. For residency proof while not in employment I would try and get together as many "official" documents, such as from HMRC, Council and otherpublic bodies.

alterhase58,
thanks a lot for your reply.

I do have P60s and P45s from ten years ago but unfortunately, for while I was not employed, I have very little from official bodies such as HMRC and council. I have a few council tax yearly bills but not enough to cover these periods of inactivity.

Besides bank statements, maybe Tax Returns could be good too?

Sorry if I am not making any sense but I cannot understand why documents which can be used for PR cannot be used for BC.

thanks again,

A bit of an update in case anybody will have the same issue.

I have called the HO helpline 4 times between yesterday and this morning and all the times they have confirmed that Bank statements are acceptable as proof of residence.

I am aware of the fact that what they say needs to be taken with a pinch of salt but, in my case, I have no alternative.

thanks,

Thank you for posting. I wonder if you received a reply to your second question? (what evidence is required to establish self sufficiency?).

For naturalisation you don't need prove self sufficiency, you can be unemployed and apply. Nationality law is different to Immigration law applied for PR.
