British Passport Child Born Abroad to Naturalised Parent

Hi,

I'm a naturalised british citizen. I recently had a child in NZ and I'm confused as to the process to apply for her British passport/citizenship. Do I need to apply for registration with the MN1 and then for a passport, or can I just apply for passport directly?

Thanks

If child was born AFTER you became British and attended your ceremony, then child is automatically British by descent and can apply for a passport directly.

Child can apply for a passport directly. A (British) consular birth certificate is not available for those born in New Zealand.

Since parent is naturalised- it's especially important to keep records of the parent's British citizenship. In case the child has to re-evidence British citizenship later in life. The Home Office do not always keep good records and will deny a claim to British citizenship if this happens and the individual has not got records of their own. In addition- make sure the child keeps a valid British passport and do not throw out expired passports. They may be needed in future.

Hi
I am confused regarding my situation. I am a British citizen and a guardian for a child born outside the UK. Can I apply for a British passport for him? Or first he needs to be register as a British citizen?

Thanks for your help and support
