No suitable person to countersign my passport application

After securing my citizenship, I am now trying to apply for a passport. However, I can't seem to find a suitable person to countersign the application form. The best two bets I have are two of my friends: one is a radiation scientist at a hospital, and the other is a postdoctoral researcher at a research institute. Neither of those professions really match the list of accepted professions, although it seems that the list is more of a guidance. So, is either of my friends good enough to countersign the form?

Why not ask one of the referees who signed your AN application?

That would be a bit problematic. My BC application was signed by my PhD supervisor, but now that my PhD is finished it wouldn't be so easy.

And forgot the most important bit: he does not have a British citizenship so can't countersign anyway.
