incomplete English Literature Degree

Sorry if this question has been asked before but I'm having a hard time finding the answer, although I suspect I already know what the answer is. The one that makes life more difficult for me

I completed two years at an English University studying English literature, I had to drop out at the beginning of my final year for...well reasons. I was given a diploma showing my two completed years with the option to take my credits and complete the degree at a later date.

Is this in anyway good enough to meet the knowledge of the English Language requirement part of the naturalisation process?

I have a feeling the answer to this question is no, but man it would be great if it was yes.

However, even if it is ok I suspect taking an approved language test is far cheaper than shelling out the 120+ quid it takes to use the NARIC service.

No it is not. You would need the completed Degree certificate.

You will need to do an HO approved English B1 test, which costs the same as UK NARIC anyway (roughly £150 each).

Oh thank god, it's the B1 GCE grade 5 and not the B1 ICE 1! I really wasn't looking forward to a 2 hours written exam :s.

As long as the test provider is on the HO approved list, you should be fine.
