british passport query

i applied for childs passport after getting him registered as british citizen. however my referee has received a letter asking few question like, name of applicant, the person filling d form, if she signed it and also if he certitfied d photo, d VAT number of the company n also it said the referee should sign himself all this info on a business letter pad etc
kindly advice if this is a normal procedure??thanks

Referees can be contacted by HMPO/UKVI/etc for further verification. By applying we allow the authorities to contact referees as well as all other authorities which hold information on us.

many thanks for your reply...can you plz tell how much longer it take for them to decide after sending the required documents?

Impossible to say as it is not very often that referees are contacted. You will need to wait for them to finish their processes.

HMPO recived d letter on monday..yesterday i was sent a message that it will be delivered in few days...however to my surprise got the Passport today..
