As long as you are not recklessly amassing debt without an intention to paying it off. If you have any CCJ's, you have to show that you are paying it off or thay you have settled the payment.

6.2 Debt
The decision maker will not normally refuse an application simply because the person is in debt, especially if loan repayments have been made as agreed or if acceptable efforts are being made to pay off accumulated debts.
However, where a person deliberately and recklessly builds up debts and there is no evidence of a serious intention to pay them off, the decision maker will normally refuse the application.
I suppose it depends on how big the debt is and any missed payments. All at the discretion of the Caseworker in the end.

I suppose it also depends on salary etc and how quickly it was built up. If it was a larger figure that has reduced over time it would look favourable, if it's still be added too. Well as I said it's up to the Caseworker.
