I hope your well. I have a new question which I am looking for an answer for.

I sent off my original passport to the Home Office a number of weeks ago. They replied recently that the passport cannot support my application for British Citizenship.

The Home Office letter I received said that I can send alternative evidence of residence.

There was a small list of alternative evidence of residence including the following categories:

1) Employed/unemployed

2) Self/employed or business persons

3) Student

4) Self-sufficient

5) Retired

My main question is this, can I send off the following documents (not in the list) as alternative evidence of residence?

1) Bank Statements confirming my residence

2) Letter from my accommodation/hostel confirming my residenc

From your experience, have the 2 documents above been accepted?

Any other documents not on the list which could be accepted?
Please help

Bank statements may not be enough on their own, any utility bills, doctor's appointments, hospital letters etc?

You don't give many details, but it looks like your passport is not stamped and they need other evidence.

Have you ever paid council tax? If yes, council tax statement should do.

Alternatively, if you have ever worked or been self employed, request a statement of taxes an NI contributions from https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortfor ... DPU_SAR_NI

Finally, if you are a student, you may send an academic record for the relevant period.

Otherwise email HO explaining the documents you are able to supply and they will tell you whether they are acceptable.

Thank you for your replies.Please ask me any questions to clarify my situation.


I want to reclarify:

1) Can I use bank statements to support my British Citizenship application?

2) Can I use letters written for me by the hostel/accomodation organization?

3) Can I send documents not in the document: ANNEX Alternative Evidence of Residence, such as 1) and 2) above

3) Is it OK if the above documents do not cover a year or 2 years of my stay in London UK?

For example, that the documents covers

Years 2013-2017

Not 2012

4) What could be the reason why they did not accept my 3rd passport? Somebody told me that it may be because I have not contributed enough financially into the UK tax system/economy. Is this possible?

Please ask me any questions to clarify my situation.
