Enquiry for who have British Passport

I have a query,
Me, my wife and my son are British citizen, we all have British passports, we all moved away from the UK in October 2016 and came in Dubai now I am doing Job here.
My question is after maximum how many years we can go back to the UK, I want that my son will start his school in UK.
Is there any specific time period (number of years) restriction to live outside the UK or not?
