Applying for child's passport without MN1

Hello,
I am planning to apply for my child's passport without the MN1 application. I've just received ILR and my son is currently on an Indian passport with a dependent visa. He was born before I got my ILR. Although not the correct way to apply, I can just go into a post office and apply for my child's British passport based on my ILR and his birth certificate in the UK, correct?
This doesn't say he needs the MN1 filled in.

Kindly let me know.
Thanks.

Child born before ILR = British citizen by birth
Child born after ILR = British citizen by registration (MN1)
It appears your case is the second.

You have them the wrong way round.
Child born
BEFORE parent gets ILR = British Citizenship by MN1 Registration
Child born
AFTER Parent gets ILR = British by birth - can apply for passport directly.

You are wrong. Why do you believe your son qualifies automatically for a passport directly??
MN1 is required. Your child cannot apply directly for a passport as your child is NOT British as he was born BEFORE you got ILR.
You must register him on MN1 first.
The link clearly states the below, your child does not have British nationality.:
Your child must have British nationality to be eligible for a British passport.

That happens when you're in a hurry. Obviously I meant the contrary.
