Applying for naturalisation after ILR - ILR from 10 year route but also married to a British Citizen

Hi Guys,

I was hoping for a bit of advice regarding applying for naturalisation.

I received my ILR yesterday. Applied for it based on Long Residence ( 10 year route).

Normally, I would have to wait 12 months before applying for naturalisation but I have also been married to my other half who is a British Citizen for the last 1.5 years.

I was wondering if I still needed to wait the 12 months before applying for naturalisation or could I skip that period and apply now as I am currently married to a British Citizen.

Kind regards

Hi,

I am currently in the process of applying for naturalisation online. Should I apply for a passport the same time or wait till the naturalisation gets approved first?

What did everyone else do?

Thanks

Hi TheoWal,

I hope you sorted it out and you obtained your naturalisation.

I am basically in the same case as yours. I am not married. I will apply to LR very soon (May) and I have been legally without any gap in the UK for 10 years and 10 months. My concern would I apply for the naturalisation right after obtaining the ILR.

Your response or someone who knows would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

You will need to wait for a period of 12 months before applying, as you're not married to a British citizen. Being granted ILR under 10 year LR doesn't change this.
