Absences - Naturalisation

Hello,

I got my ILR in Sep-2016. I was due to apply for naturalisation in Sep-2017 but due to personal reasons could not do so and then went out of UK for 4 months (Oct-17 to Jan-18).
I have 2 questions:
1. I am assuming the 5 yrs period on Form AN is for the preceding years from date of application for naturalisation..is that correct?
2. Since only 90 days in the recent 12 month period are allowed for being outside UK...again I assume I need to wait for another 9/10 months before applying or are there any exceptions that I can show so that I can apply immediately and not wait?

Thanks
Varrsha

Correct.

There is usually a leeway/discretion for 100/110 days.
