Ceremony invitation to wrong local authority?

Hi all,

I just received my citizenship ceremony invitation letter. :D I assumed the ceremony would be at my local authority, but the authority in the letter is nowhere near where I live...? I live in Wales, but am now expected to travel to East London... Both local authorities start with the same syllable, so I am thinking someone must have made a clerical error...? :(

Has this happened to anyone? What did you do? Has anyone been able to change the location of the ceremony after receiving the invitation?

Best regards,
Reen

Might be worth calling your local council just in case they do have it.

You mean, like Newport and Newham?

Something similar has happened before, in local government.

Call the two councils, and ask. But I guess that your citizenship certificate is in London, and then the easiest way would be to just attend a ceremony there. There is a process for changing the location of your ceremony, but it does take some time.

Have phoned both registrars and established my documents are indeed in London...
Wales registrar phoned London registrar to ask for the documents to be sent to them. London registrar refused to do anything without authorisation from the Home Office, which I need to obtain.

Have phoned Home Office and been given the citizenship support email address to contact. Wrote to them explaining my situation - no reply yet...
