Nationality checking service

Dear Forum members,
My husband is applying for naturalisation via online application.
1: If we dont go through Nationality checking service, can he apply for naturalisation and passport at the same time?
2: As per my understanding the only difference between using Nationality checking service and sending application by ourself is that in former case we have to post original documents while can send photocopies via later.
Please help me understand it.

You can't use Nationality Checking Service for an online application. You need to use the Document return service. They will take photocopies of your documents, so you can keep the originals.
If you want to apply for a passport at the same time, you either need to use the document return service (for an online application) or nationality checking service (for a paper application).

Nationality document return service
This service allows you to keep hold of your documents whilst your application is being processed. If you want to apply for British citizenship through this service, you must apply online (you will not be able to use the paper form). If you want to make a joint citizenship and passport application, you must also use this online service.
I only need to know if one can make joint application for AN and British passport without going through Nationality checking service.

Oh, apologies, you're right. I forgot, you actually can't use NCS anymore for joint passport applications anymore. You need to use the nationality document return service. If you want a passport at the same time, you must use this service.

You can still use NCS for joint passport application. Depends on the council. I think OP is asking if she can apply for both naturalization and passport without using the council. If that is the case, she can only make a separate application for passport once she has naturalized and not at the same time
