Best route to Passport

Hi all,
I'm an Aussie who has lived here for 27 years. I have ILR but stupidly have never applied for a UK passport. I'm now looking to do this but I'm seeing a confusing array of information about how to approach it. It looks like I need to pay £1000, do a naturalisation exam and go from there. Just wondering if anyone knows a more direct route. I have Irish grandparents by the way (pre-partition) and my original ILR was on this basis. I was married to a British citizen and that was the basis for my current ILR. We were together here for 26 years with 3 kids but are now divorced.
Any advice from those with more experience would be very welcome/appreciated.
Thanks
TJH

The Life in the UK test only costs £50. The cost to naturalise as British costs £1287, increasing on 6th April 2018. https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ised-table

If you meet the requirements, complete the form and apply to naturalise, it is not a difficult application. Form AN - paper based or online.
