Help Regarding Referees!

Apologies this is no doubt discussed daily across multiple threads, but with the risk involved and the cost, I thought best to just ask the question here!

We are using two family friends for referees. Are these two professions acceptable?

1) Owner of VAT registered company (carpet fitting business)
2) Recently retired company director (retired Jan 2018). He also holds two Law degrees. But being recently retired, can I still use him?

Both British citizens.

Thanks all!

Both looks fine to me. 1st referee fits the referee requirements on the list. Director/manager/personnel officer of a VAT registered company.
2nd referee is British over 25yrs obviously.
Also they should have known you for 3 yrs.

Yes it is also on the list. So does director of a VAT registered company which OP's referee falls under.
