Spouse Citizenship

Dear All,

My wife has got her British Citizenship half a year ago. I am making my naturalization application now. Do I have to follow the 3 year British citizen spouse route or can I apply under the normal 5 year residence route (I have an ILR for more than a year)? The reason I am asking is because under the 3 year spouse route they ask for the marriage certificate. It is in a foreign language and will need to be translated/certified. While for the 5 year residence route I won't need to provide it.

You are free to apply as an individual (not as spouse) as long as you fulfill all the requirements.

Thank you! This would be great as I think less documents = less potential problems. But is there anywhere in the official guidelines saying that I am free to choose the route (if I satisfy all the conditions for both)?

On the application form I have to provide details of my spouse and if they see she has the British citizenship won't they automatically consider me under the spouse route?

I can only speak from my own experience, married to BC, applied as an individual with PR and meeting all requirements of five year route. Also gave my spouse's name and details, no comeback on this and approval received.
