Replacement of damaged naturalisation certificate

Dear All

I am really panicking as my wife torn my certificate of naturalisation. I received my British passport couple of days ago, and home office today sent my supporting documents; however in opening the letter she tore it from the corner. I have read else where that I have to fill out form NC but have following queries:

1) What is the fee for replacement
2) How long does it take to get it?
3) Since I have got my passport, is there any benefit of the certificate?
4) the form is asking for ‘previous UK passport number’. I never had British passport before. This is my first passport.
5) I presume I don’t have to reapply for passport since I/my wife damaged the certificate.
6) Do I need to send my damaged certificate?

Really worried so any help would be much appreciated

When you say torn corner, what exactly do you mean? Just a small piece or torn in half, a third, etc?

I understand from the fee sheet it costs £250 and can take a few weeks or couple of months.

I would say a third has been ripped. Can you please answer my other queries as well? Thank you so much for your prompt response

I didn't answer as I don't have experience of this form (am careful when opening post, even junkmail), butwould guess the following :

Fill in the form with your current passport details.

No you won't have to reapply for a passport.

Your certificate is the document to prove you are British, so yes it is an important doucment, like a birth certificate. A passport is just a travel document.

You need to send damaged certificate.

Thank you so much but if you see this link

https://www.gov.uk/get-replacement-citi ... ertificate

It only says to submit application, fees but no damaged certificate. Can you kindly look and advice accordingly?

Then do that but HO might write to you and ask for the damaged one.

I would like to ask that in what situation the cert of Naturalisation will be needed again? renew the passport?

Will we become Windrush if we lost the cert?

If you are applying for your first British passport or had lost your British passport, then they expect to see your naturalisation certificate.

Do you know how long the application takes?

If the certificate is readable could you not just tape it (and keep it laminated, etc) - that way it's still there if ever needed and you don't need to get it replaced? Or is it a bit like a passport (with barcodes, etc)?

No. Defaced certificates and laminated certificates would never be accepted. HO guidance very clearly states this.
