British Passport and Grandparents Details

Can someone advise on why when applying for a British passport it asks for grandparents details (so 4 details) and date of marriage

I have a citizenship certificate and have no claim for British nationality so why do I have to provide all this information. It is not relevant.

It should say provide where you have a British connection but it doesn't.

I left those fields blank and in the "Additional Details" field entered something to the effect of "Citizenship acquired by naturalisation, therefore grandparents details irrelevant & therefore blank". They seem to have accepted that.

thanks for the reply

Did a lot of searching and found Wandsworth Council in London do a joint citizen and passport service
I don't know what the post office will say but the Council says

Section 4: Grandparents’ details are not required.
