My wife got her ilr in January 2018 using the 10 year stay route.
However, I am a British citizen and i want to know if she can immediately apply for her citizenship without having to wait for 12 months. I read from the rules that if you are married to a British citizen and you have ilr you can apply for citizenship immediately. My concern is that this specific rule might be for only those who got their ilr through dependency not through the 10 year rule.

Can someone help clarify this?

Yes she can apply now if she meets the 3 years residence spouse of BC requirements, including being physically present 3 years ago on the same date that she applies.

Nonsense. It makes no difference what route to ILR a person takes. Citizenship laws are independent and separate from immigration rules.
