Born abroad child is Section 3(1) in 1.1
Uk born child is Section 1(3) in 1.1. UK born child also did NOT require ILR either.
How long has the 17 year old been in the UK??

Section 3(1) states that the Home Secretary will consider granting citizenship to a dependent child if either both parents are British, or if one is British whilst the other is settled. I'm single parent and hold ILR along with my 17 year old. His father is not British or neither is he settled here. Can I apply naturalisation for myself and my son at the same time?

Hi
I am a Sri lankan too,got refugee status in 2011, got ILR in 2016 and applied for BC and waiting for results.
First of all you can apply for your BC there is no problem with that provided that you have not committed any immigration crime.
For 17 you can apply for BC under 3(1)
Since 3(5), and 3(2) are not satisfied, only route available is the 3(1) for you to apply for your son. Yes you can apply for both but I think you will have to send it as joint application as your identity and other documents are needed for your sons application processing as well.
You have to post both applications in one envelope.
Fee for your application : £1330
Your Sons : £1012 (an additional 80 if you son will turn 18 before application processed)
Hope it helps.
