British Passports for minors - Ancestral route

Question:
If we as a family are currently in the UK on Ancestral visas (visa expiring in 2021) can I as the main applicant apply for our children - who are my dependants for British Passports next year (after 3 years) in the UK- if myself (main applicant) and their mother do not have ILR yet? We can only apply for ILR in 2021(after our 5 year stay)
Thank you.

No you cannot. Children born abroad require ILR first and will have to apply when you do.
We can only apply for ILR in 2021(after our 5 year stay)
Then you will have to wait and apply for ILR for the children and wait the required 12 months on ILR before you can register them as British at the same time as EITHER parent is applying for citizenship.

Just confirming - even though the children have ancestral visas I cannot apply for them after 3 years I am still on my Ancestral. We ALL have to have ILR and then we all can apply for BP after 12 months?

Correct yes. There is no quicker route to citizenship for children born abroad to non British parents.
