I need urgent help pls

Dear all members .
I am new at this forum and i have 2 questions for you members :
i have an appontement next week to apply for citizenship at the NCS but after speaking to a friend he said my ILR indefinite leave to remain has expired in September 2018 and you need to renew it before you can apply.he really confused me now.
and my second question i was thinking to travel to visit my sick father after i apply, is it possible to come back to England with an expired ILR.
Pls i really need help i don't know what to believe anymore.

When and how (PBS, Long Residence, spouse, EU route) did you get your ILR?
Do you have it stamped in your passport or do you have a separate card? If a card, what does it say on the card?

Indefinite Leave to Remain
doesn't expire, but
may lapse after an absence of more than two continuous years outside the UK.

Thanks for the reply ,i got it through the 14 years concession as an over stayer, i got it back in 2008 ans its on a separate paper ( card ) which says Indefinite leave to remain ,thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply Vinny, So i dont have to renew it to apply for naturalisation or travel abroad for couple of weeks

Moreover, it's a very important piece of paper! Don't lose it. Make multiple certified copies!
Do you have any Indefinite Leave to Enter endorsements in subsequent passports?
Immigration Officers may
advise you to spend money and apply for a NTL BRP. It's a confirmation.
But after you naturalise, then it's
moot. The indefinite leave to remain status ceases to exist.

Im going to make some copies right now ,No i only have one card and its not on my passport its separate ,thank you Vinny for your reply much appreciated ,im feeling more confident right now after yesterday's confusion.
