Application for AN Naturalisation online and evidence

Ok I hope I can get some assistance here.
My husband is applying for British citizenship (AN application) online. We are still completing the form. It should be done soon as I think his is a straight forward case. (Fingers crossed)
1.) We are struggling to get an appointment for NDRS and our local council will stop providing this service end of this month. No available appintments and chances are there wont be one available for us as they are fully booked. So does that mean we no longer have the option of getting our documents back same time as applying?
2.) We still want to do the online application but if there's no appts for NDRS then can we send his documents off ourselves? If yes please give some details as to how do this and how long does it take for the documents to be returned back to us?
3.) He did his biometrics back in 2017 for ILR application does he need to repeat this for Nationality application?
4.) The only available appointment offered to him was paper application checking service which he doesn't want to do due to already starting an online one. Also I've heard paper takes longer. I feel online will be alot easier as there isn't anything complicated about his case. I want to just get the application done on our own if there's no NDRS appt available. Can you please let me know if other people have successfully done this before? If yes please give us any tips to make the process easier as I feel so nervous atm. I basically want to know how easy is it to apply online yourself? Do you think it's ok to send off the application without getting it checked by council.
Sorry for sounding lost but I really hope to get some advice so we can finally get this application done and sent. Thank you in advance for your guidance and support.
