Hello everyone,

I applied for my child's passport overseas. Because my husband abandonded child many years ago, so I don't have his original naturalisation certificate. But I have the number and issued date of his certificate. Before I applied, I consulted the passport office, they told me that I can write a letter explaining why I can't provide this certificate. I submited it to the passport office with child's birth certificate, father's British passport copy and marriage certificate and family photos etc.

I received an email from HMPO this morning, they asked me to submit the child's father's naturalization certificate. Which experienced friend can tell me what I should do now?

urgent help! thank you!

There is one way to obtain a copy of his naturalization certificate. I'm not certain if its legal.
You can apply to HO for a duplicate certificate (at a extortionate price) and then use it for the application.
It may be illegal to apply for another person's certificate but the child of that person is involved and deprived of their rights due to the callousness of the person. Morally justifiable but legally sorry, I don't know.
