Certificate of Registration to full blown Naturalisation

Hi all.

I have searched the internet and the FAQ's on this website and there's nothing that helps me understand what I think is not only my situation but may be an unclear situation for many.

My wife and I were/are NZ citizens and we we have lived here in the UK for 10 years. In that time we applied for British citizenship and were granted it in 2015. Our children were 15 and 16 at the time. Mum and dad have Certificates of Naturalisation but our kids have Certificates of Registration.

All four of us have British passports.

We are under the impression we need to "convert" their Certificates of Registration to Certificates of Naturalisation so that they can be "full blown naturalised citizens". Is this the case?

I'm hoping that I have an incorrect understanding. I'm hoping that we are all British Citizens and no further action is required and that they simply have the word "registration" instead of "naturalisation" because they were younger than 18 at the time of citizenship application.

OR am I right and there is some other process my kids have to complete to become 'fully' British citizen? Thank you if you can direct me to a previous thread or know the answer.

No, they are already "full blown" citizens.

You do.

Nothing needs to be done. You are all British citizens otherwise than by descent.

Adults are naturalised. Children under 18 are registered.

You are wrong, nothing to be done

Hi CROO1...

Thank you for passing on such great news. I spent so much of yesterday trying to get to the bottom of this and now your answer has put my mind at rest. Thank you.

If you are ever in NZ (after February 2020)... please don't hesitate to contact me - at least you'll have a free place to stay in Wellington! And... based on your flag we may have something to talk about - I met my wife when doing my first degree at the university of Cape Town.

Take care and thank you.
